University Description

As one of the premier Universities of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, has always endeavoured to effectuate higher educational requirements related to both local and global levels. Right from its inception on 2nd October 1983, the University has always strived to impart multidisciplinary education through its 17 University Departments, 1 International and Inter University Centre, 7 Inter University Centres, 10 Inter School Centres, 77 Govt./Aided Affiliated Colleges, 10 Autonomous Colleges (of which 8 are Colleges with a Potential for Excellence), 200 Unaided Affiliated Colleges and 199 Recognized Research Centres. Amongst the multitude of honours bestowed on the University for its unmatched excellence, its commendable positions in the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) (30th Rank-2020), in the top 25 educational institutions in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA)-2020, conducted by the Ministry of HRD stand out. Furthermore, the University was accredited with an “A” grade by NAAC (score of 3.24 points) in 2017, which is the highest among universities in Kerala.The University also won the Chancellor's Award in 2018-19 and 2019-20. MGU is the only University in the State to find a place (154th position in the Top 200 Universities) in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, 2021. MGU was also rated in the bandwidth of 601–800th in Times World University Rankings-2021 and placed 6th in India Today – MDRA Rankings 2019 and secured a position in the bandwidth of 401-600 in the Impact ranking of Times Higher Education Ranking. The University is also proud of its 142nd position in the Times Higher Education Young Universities Rankings, 2021 and its 141st position in the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021.
